At VIS, our commitment to fostering awareness and understanding of social justice issues starts from a young age. Recently, Grade 5 students have been actively exploring the role of various organisations in upholding human rights and addressing social injustices. Students were given the unique opportunity to engage with Secondary School peers from Grades 10 to 12, who shared their personal involvement with a range of impactful organisations. Presentations were made by students representing organisations such as Maher, Amnesty International, Projekt Schule für Alle (PROSA), and the VIS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) collaborative group under the Central & Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA). These groups work to promote human rights and social justice on both a global and local scale, and the presentations provided an in-depth look at the ways in which these organisations are driving positive change in the world.
The dialogue between the VIS older and younger students was a powerful exchange of ideas, sparking inspiration in the Grade 5 students to think critically about social justice and the role they can play as advocates for human rights. We are confident that the lessons learned from this interaction will not only deepen the Grade 5 students' understanding of social justice but also empower their generation to stand up for the rights of others in their communities.
By encouraging our youngest learners to become aware of the world around them and inspiring them to take action, VIS is helping to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow who will continue to champion human rights and create positive change.
