The San Marino students went sightseeing, taking in the culture of Vienna, and experienced a variety of lessons and activities here at school, as well as social events each evening with their hosts. The Parent Teacher Association treated all students to a Schnitzel & Strudel Lunch and Bowling Evening, and they went ice skating at the Rathaus. This has been an enriching experience for all involved, and we are grateful for all VIS families who welcomed our visitors into their homes.
The exchange programme was launched in 2018 by Vienna International School in collaboration with the State Secretariat for Foreign Affairs, the State Secretariat for Culture and the San Marino Embassy in Austria and involved a group of students, selected by the San Marino school system, coming to Vienna in February in order to spend a week in an international and diverse linguistic school culture, and to experience life in a large European city. VIS students took part in a similar cultural exchange with the School from the Republic of San Marino, which proved to be an overwhelming success and, as a result, the parties decided to continue to offer the opportunity to Grade 10 students to continue taking part in this exchange programme.
As a result of the exchange programme, 20 VIS students will spend a week in April experiencing the culture and history of this very established republic when they participate in the reciprocal visit to the Republic of San Marino, once again catching up with their student counterparts.
Thank you to all families, teachers and school leadership who are supporting this exchange and making the experience possible for the students involved.
