VIS Celebrates Lunar New Year

Lantern Festival Organised for Lunar New Year Celebration

The spirit of the Lunar New Year came alive at Vienna International School (VIS) with a spectacular Lantern Festival that brought joy, tradition, and a strong sense of community to the entire school. This vibrant celebration transformed the school’s lobby into a dazzling display of colorful lanterns, festive decorations, and engaging cultural activities, making it an unforgettable experience for students, staff, and families alike.

The event featured a variety of traditional festivities, including riddle guessing, calligraphy, lucky draws, and the serving of delicious tangyuan, a sweet glutinous rice ball symbolizing family unity and togetherness. These activities offered the VIS students and families the opportunity to learn more about the rich cultural significance of the Spring Festival.

This year’s celebration carried even more significance as the Lunar New Year/Spring Festival was officially recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The acknowledgment highlights the importance of preserving and sharing these traditions, and VIS is proud to be part of this global cultural appreciation.

The success of the Lantern Festival reinforces VIS’s commitment to fostering cultural awareness and inclusivity within its diverse school community. The school looks forward to hosting more meaningful celebrations in the future, continuing to embrace and honor the traditions that bring people together. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this spectacular event!
