VIS Celebrates UNESCO Mother Language Day 2025

UNESCO Mother Language Day Celebrated with a Week of Cultural Appreciation

The celebration of UNESCO Mother Language Day was a week to remember, as the school held a series of events highlighting the significance of mother languages in promoting cultural diversity and heritage.

The festivities began with a fun event in the Primary Library, where parents and staff members were invited to read stories to students in their native languages. This offered our students the opportunity to experience stories from different cultures firsthand, as they listened to tales in a variety of languages including Greek, Polish, Turkish, Bulgarian, Estonian, Arabic, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Hungarian, German, Chinese, Hindi, Russian, French, and Macedonian.

As a highlight of the week’s celebrations, on Friday morning, the VIS community came together for a special multicultural breakfast event. Students, parents, and staff shared foods from their home countries, offering a delicious and engaging way to explore the world’s many culinary traditions. This breakfast celebrated gastronomy worldwide and created a space for conversation, allowing participants to discuss their backgrounds, family traditions, and connections to their native languages.

This week was a beautiful reminder of the role that language plays in shaping our identities and communities. By promoting and celebrating mother languages, VIS helped preserve the rich cultural heritage of its students while also nurturing an environment of respect and understanding. These efforts are essential in promoting global awareness and encouraging students to value diversity as they grow into global citizens.
