VIS Joins the Vienna City Marathon

Over 130 student participants triumph at rainy Vienna City Marathon

On Saturday, 20 April, over 130 students from the Vienna International School participated in various events of the Vienna City Marathon (VCM). The school set up an official VCM tent near the starting line, serving as a central meeting point for parents, students and staff both before and after their races.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, including heavy rain and hail, more than 130 students from the Early Learning Center (ELC) and Primary School participated in the 800m and 1600m runs. The Grade 4 students secured 4th place in the 800m race, while the Grade 5 students came 5th in the 1600m competition. Adding to the spirit of the day, Grade 11 students provided water and small snacks to the younger runners. Simultaneously, over 70 students from Grades 9, 10, and 11 assisted in the finishing areas with handing out the medals, medal engraving, and distributing refreshments to all finishers.

The excitement continued on Sunday, 21 April, with 13 VIS teams, composed of both students and staff, successfully completing the relay marathon. A special congratulations to Team VIS VIII for their impressive 25th place finish out of more than 2000 relay teams. For detailed results, please visit the VCM webpage.

Overall, the event was a tremendous success, showcasing strong participation and community spirit from VIS students, staff and community members, and we look forward to the 42nd edition of Vienna City Marathon in 2025.
