VIS Students Remarkable Success at the Vienna Night Run

105 VIS students participated in the Vienna Night Run, a 5km run at night around the ring, on Thursday, 26 September.

Please congratulate our G11 & G12 students on their participation in the Vienna Night Run, a 5km run at night around the ring that took place on Thursday, 26 September. Over 16,000 people participated, with over 10 schools from Vienna, and 105 students from Grade 11/12 represented VIS in a positive manner. The night run fits the ‘Activity’ strand for CAS, and was a great way for the students to kick off their CAS programmes with a community event. Some ran their personal best, while others jogged and walked their way over the finish line.

VIS placed top of all schools participating; with a special mention to Emile Obersteiner and Callum Nussbaumer, who placed 139 and 141 respectively out of over 15,500 runners. Please congratulate them if you see them.

You can see the results table here – search VIS and you will see all 105 student results (7 teams from Grade 11 and 2 teams from Grade 12). A big thank you to the staff who also helped train the students in preparation, ran with them, and registered them on the night; you all helped the students achieve their goals! With sustainability in mind, the organisers plant a mangrove tree for each participant.

A Grade 11 student reflection:

The VNR was an amazing experience that we will all remember as a vital part of our VIS years. As we gathered outside the Museumsquartier on Thursday evening, we felt proud of the fact that not only were we challenging ourselves physically, but we were doing it for a good cause; planting trees to help combat climate change. The VNR was an immensely enjoyable run for people of all different ages and fitness levels, and I speak for my whole grade when I say that we look forward to doing it again next year.
