On 16 October, the Project Centipede team, including six VIS students, travelled to Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, to deliver 27 Banana Boxes filled with essential supplies donated by Grades 6–10 students. The group visited schools in Sinmartin and a foster home, distributing items such as toiletries, food, and household essentials to children and families. The trip provided a firsthand look at the stark differences in living conditions and reinforced the importance of giving back.
Student Irina Popescu reflected on the journey, calling it an "eye-opening experience." As a Romanian herself, she was deeply moved by the contrast between her life and that of the children they helped. Despite language barriers, students connected with the children through shared moments of joy and service. The group also prepared meals and organised donations for foster families, emphasising the power of community and compassion.
For nearly 30 years, VIS has supported Project Centipede, a nonprofit dedicated to aiding Romanian orphans and foster families. This initiative underscores VIS’s commitment to bridging classroom learning with global citizenship, showing students how their actions can make a tangible difference. A big thank you to the VIS community for their continued generosity and support of this impactful cause. Learn more about Project Centipede here.
