VIS Supports Zero Project Conference

Students Contribute to the Zero Project Conference on Inclusion and Accessibility

This year, the annual Zero Project Conference, a landmark event in the field of disability inclusion, took place the week of 7 March, comprising a combination of high-profile sessions and engaging discussions on topics such as ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and employment.

The conference began with an inspiring opening ceremony held at the Austrian Parliament. Leaders from each political party in Austria gathered to show their support for the cause, setting the tone for a productive and impactful week. From Wednesday to Friday, the conference moved to the United Nations in Vienna, where over 1,000 delegates from more than 45 countries came together to present and discuss cutting-edge solutions designed to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.

As part of this important event, 40 student volunteers VIS played a crucial role in ensuring the conference ran smoothly. The students, participating in their Service as Action and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programmes, took on a variety of responsibilities, from managing the Photo Booth and assisting at the Wardrobe to serving as Timekeepers and supporting the Registration Desk. In addition to supporting the logistics of the conference, the student volunteers had the invaluable opportunity to attend presentations and discussions on topics that directly affect their lives, such as inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability.

The experience gave our students a chance to gain first-hand insight into global efforts toward inclusion and allowed them to witness the power of collaboration across industries and sectors in achieving these goals. VIS is incredibly proud of the students who volunteered their time and energy to make this conference a success, while developing a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and the innovative solutions being implemented around the world.
